Priced from Rs. 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), Model Y L now available to order at Tesla dealerships in Delhi, Gurgaon, and Mumbai and also on website
Tesla has launched the Model Y L in India, marking its first major product action since its entry into the market with the Model Y in July last year. The Model Y L may be just a derivative of the Model Y, but it has quite a lot of differences than its near-identical design may suggest. Here are ten reasons why the Tesla Model Y L is a better pick over its donor:
1. Enhanced performance
The Model Y is available in dual-motor configurations internationally; however, in India, it is only offered in single-motor configurations. The Model Y L, on the other hand, has a dual-motor setup as standard. Packing more power and torque, the Model Y L hits 0 to 100 kph in five seconds flat. This means it is 0.4 seconds quicker than the Model Y Long Range RWD and 0.9 seconds quicker than the Model Y Standard Range RWD.
2. More grip
The Model Y L’s primary drive unit is on the rear axle, just like in the Model Y. Its second motor powers the front axle, enabling e-AWD. It’s obvious that the Model Y L isn’t an off-road-oriented vehicle, but the e-AWD drivetrain layout means it is more capable on low-grip surfaces such as mud, snow, and sand. The Model Y L would also be a safer vehicle on wet roads, a situation commonly faced by most Indian drivers during the monsoon.

3. Longer range
The Model Y can travel 500 kilometres on a single charge in the Standard Range RWD variant and 661 kilometres in the Long Range RWD variant. The Model Y L gives a longer range of 681 kilometres, making road trips more confidence-inspiring and reducing charging stops.
4. More seating capacity
The Tesla Model Y L has a 150 mm wheelbase and accommodates six people, which makes it ideal for customers who frequently travel in larger groups.

5. More cargo space
The Tesla Model Y L offers 1,192 litres of cargo space with the second-row seats folded, 254 litres more than the Tesla Model Y. With all the rear seats folded, it offers 2,539 litres of cargo space, 401 litres more than the latter.
6. More comfort
The second row of the Tesla Model Y L offers more comfort with captain seats featuring retractable inner armrests. These seats come with not only heating but also ventilation, which makes the vehicle more suitable for Indian summers.

7. Adaptive suspension
Unlike the Tesla Model Y, the Tesla Model Y L features an adaptive suspension. The suspension tuning changes automatically based on the road conditions and driving style.
8. More advanced sound system
The Tesla Model Y L is a better pick for audiophiles. It features a special sound system with 18 speakers and one subwoofer for a richer audio experience.

9. Bi-directional charging
An exclusive bi-directional charging capability allows users to offload the Tesla Model Y L’s battery pack and power external devices. This functionality can prove useful during power outages at home and also on adventure trips.
10. Lower price
India is the only market worldwide where the Tesla Model Y L has been priced lower than the Tesla Model Y’s Long Range RWD variant. Despite all the aforementioned advantages, it Rs. 5.9 lakh cheaper.
