Nissan Tekton to challenge the likes of Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq

Nissan is set to return to the mid-size SUV segment in India after a six-year hiatus. The company is bringing an all-new model called the ‘Tekton’ as the successor to the Terrano on 9 July, and here are five things you need to know about the upcoming mid-size SUV:

1. Inspired by the Nissan Patrol

The Nissan Tekton will feature an edgy and muscular design borrowing cues from the brand’s global flagship SUV – the Patrol. Three-module rectangular headlamps surrounded by inverted L-shaped headlamps that are virtually connected via a light band would be the key to this resemblance.

2. Google built-in

The Nissan Tekton will be one of the few models in its segment to feature an infotainment system with Google built-in, operated via a 10.1-inch touchscreen. This would allow customers to use key Google services such as Google Maps and Google Assistant via pre-installed native apps. Native apps should include Spotify, YouTube Music, and Prime, with more downloadable via Google Play.

3. Virtual instrument cluster with map view

Another highlight of the Nissan Tekton will be a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that offers a nearly full view of the navigation. This means customers would not need to look sideways into the infotainment system and get a view of the directions along with surrounding locations with a glance just below their line of sight.

4. Strong on comfort and convenience

The Nissan Tekton won’t be the most spacious model in its segment, mainly due to less room in the rear seat, but it should pack a host of premium comfort and convenience features. A powered tailgate, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, front seats with power adjustment, manual lumbar support, and ventilation, and a 48-colour ambient lighting system are likely to be the highlights.

5. Hybrid-ready

Initially, the Nissan Tekton will likely only be offered with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 99 hp and 166 Nm of torque and a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 161 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Both should be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission, although a 6-speed dual wet clutch automatic transmission is expected as an option for the latter. Sometime in early 2027, Nissan will likely introduce a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.8-litre petrol engine that could deliver a fuel economy of around 25 km/l.
