The sales of facelifted Honda City have jumped 150% in May 2026 as the brand’s volumes crossed 5,000 units

Honda Cars India dispatched 5,111 vehicles in May 2026 by registering a substantial improvement over both the corresponding period last year and the previous month. The biggest contributor to the increase was the City which staged a big comeback due to the arrival of the facelift and emerged as a decent performing midsize sedan.

The key figure belonged to the City. Honda dispatched 1,227 units of the midsize sedan during May compared to 491 units a year ago. The sedan also posted a notable recovery from April’s tally of 177 units. The City continues to be offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 121 hp and 145 Nm, and is coupled with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.

The updated model brought in cosmetic revisions and more features inside the cabin. It is currently priced between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 21 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in multiple trim levels. Customers also have access to the City e:HEV strong hybrid which combines a petrol engine and electric motor system for a total output of 126 hp.

Despite the attention surrounding the City, the Amaze remained Honda’s largest volume generator. The compact sedan recorded 2,660 units and accounted for more than half of the company’s total monthly dispatches. It uses a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing 90 hp and 110 Nm while transmission choices comprise a five-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

A generation change in late 2024 has helped the model maintain decent traction within the compact sedan segment. The Elevate contributed 1,224 units during the month. Although the SUV finished below its year-ago result, it posted an increase compared to April 2026. Its key rivals are the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and more.

A closer examination of Honda’s volumes reveals the continued importance of sedans within the brand’s Indian portfolio for too long now. The Amaze and City generated 3,887 units combined – accounting for more than three-quarters of total dispatches. The Japanese manufacturer will soon announce the prices of the ZR-V while a midsize electric SUV is currently being tested ahead of launch next FY.
