Suzuki Burgman 150 Debuts With 14.2 HP & Premium Features – Coming To India?

Suzuki Burgman 150 uses a 149 cc single cylinder air cooled engine producing 14.2 hp at 8,500 rpm and 14.2 Nm at 6,500 rpm – almost double the output of the 124 cc Burgman Street

Suzuki has pulled the covers off the Burgman 15 in Colombia – a proper maxi scooter that sits a significant step above the Burgman Street 125 sold in India in terms of displacement, hardware and feature content. The model runs on a 149 cc single cylinder air cooled engine producing 14.2 hp at 8,500 rpm and 14.2 Nm at 6,500 rpm – almost double the output of the 124cc Burgman Street that makes 8.3 hp and 10.2 Nm.

The jump in performance is substantial and so is the change in character. The Burgman 15 is a true maxi scooter rather than a maxi styled one. It rides on 14 inch alloy wheels at both ends – a huge departure from the 12 inch setup on the India spec Burgman Street and uses a proper underspine chassis that gives it more in common with the larger Burgman 400 than the domestically sold 125cc version.

At 145 kg kerb weight, it is heavier than the Burgman Street but the additional mass comes with hardware that justifies it. Up front, the design takes a sportier direction. A split headlamp arrangement features an inverted horseshoe shaped LED DRL with a centrally mounted projector unit giving the face a more premium and layered look than the India spec model which received a notable update recently.

The tail lamp treatment is completely different and noticeably more upmarket. The bodywork across the Burgman 15 is more substantial with cleaner surfacing and a heftier visual presence overall. The feature list is well loaded for the segment. Traction control, dual channel ABS system, keyless ignition, a TFT display and USB Type C charging are on board.

Underseat storage appears larger than the Burgman Street 125 as well. For India, the question is whether Suzuki will choose to bring it here. The 150 cc scooter space in India is relatively small – the Yamaha Aerox 155, TVS Ntorq 150 and Hero Xoom 160 hold what little volume exists at that displacement.

The Burgman 15 may slot in as a more comfort based alternative to those options though its dimensions and premium positioning would likely push pricing above the segment average. A realistic price in India would put it close to the Aerox 155 but Suzuki has made no indication that an India launch is planned, at least in the near future.

The Burgman brand has done well in India as the Street 125 accounts for around 25 per cent of total Suzuki India scooter sales since launch – crossing 14 lakh cumulative units. A 150 cc version with genuine maxi scooter credentials could find customers who want more than what the 125 cc version delivers but are not yet ready to step up to a motorcycle.
