7 new SUVs and a new electric MPV are part of Maruti Suzuki’s biggest product offensive in recent memory as it will come into fruition over the next 2-3 years
Maruti Suzuki is preparing for an aggressive product expansion programme in India. Over the next three years, the country’s largest carmaker is expected to introduce nine new vehicles and seven of which are likely to be SUVs as utility vehicles have become the main growth contributors of the PV industry and now account for a significant share of overall sales.
While Maruti Suzuki has found success with products such as the Fronx, Brezza and Grand Vitara, competition from Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Kia and Toyota continues to intensify. One of the significant products under development is a new electric MPV internally codenamed YMC. The model is expected to share its architecture with the e Vitara.
It will become Maruti Suzuki’s second battery-electric vehicle for India and it will take on the likes of Kia Carens Clavis EV. The YMC could offer practicality in a spacious and more premium package tailor-made for India while facelifted Baleno and Brezza are also under development along with a host of flex-fuel cars. The scale of Maruti Suzuki’s ambitions can also be understood through its production planning as it is targeting an output of 2.82 million vehicles in FY27 compared to 2.31 million units manufactured in FY26.

Such an increase would represent growth of around 22 per cent and rank among the largest annual production expansions undertaken by the company in recent years. In FY26 alone, Maruti Suzuki accounted for around 42 per cent of India’s PV production, dispatched more than 1.82 million units in the domestic market and exported 443,825 vehicles.
Until the all-new products arrive, established models will stay put bringing in volumes. Production planning for FY27 is expected to revolve around the Fronx, Baleno, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Swift and WagonR. The Fronx has emerged as one of the country’s top-selling SUVs while the Grand Vitara remains a key player in the midsize SUV category.

The Ertiga dominates the MPV segment and the Baleno, Swift and WagonR remain among India’s most popular hatchbacks. Maruti Suzuki is preparing for a market where SUVs, hybrids and electric vehicles are expected to play increasingly important roles. Seven new SUVs, a new electric MPV and production targets approaching three million units annually suggest that the company is entering a new growth phase.
