Kia to continue focusing on SUV and MPV categories in the Indian market, strengthening its position as an RV brand
Aiming to grow its annual sales in India from around 280,000 units last year to 410,000 units by 2030, Kia will roll out multiple new products in the coming years. The company plans to introduce four new SUVs in our market by 2027 alone.
Kia’s next launch in India will be the Syros EV, officially confirmed to be unveiled in July. The ICE Syros has seen a muted response, much of which could be attributed to its quirky exterior. The Syros EV will have a nearly identical design, with most visual differences expected to be seen in the lower grille and front bumper.
The charging port of the Kia Syros EV will be located in the left front quarter panel. Expected to feature an LFP battery pack with cells manufactured by Exide Energy, the new compact EV could have a maximum range of up to 475-500 kilometres.

Sometime in the fourth quarter of the year, Kia will launch the Sorento, its global D-segment SUV that challenges the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe and Skoda Kodiaq. The company offers this model in 5-, 6-, and 7-seat versions globally, but it may only offer the three-row options in India. Interestingly, the Kia Sorento will be a hybrid-only model in our market.
Reports say the Sorento’s hybrid powertrain in India could be based on a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine instead of a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit like in other markets. The Sorento will be the first SUV in its segment from a global automaker to be manufactured locally. Companies typically import CKD kits of D-segment SUVs and assemble them locally. The greater level of localisation should help Kia to price its model more competitively.

Early next year, the Kia Sorento Hybrid will be joined by the Kia Seltos Hybrid. While the Seltos Hybrid comes with a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, in India, there will be a 1.5-litre unit. Kia is reportedly planning localisation to a significant extent for the core components of the hybrid system to launch the Seltos Hybrid with aggressive pricing.
In the second half of 2026, Kia will likely launch the next-gen Sonet. Spy shots captured during local testing have all but confirmed the Sonet will undergo a thorough redesign for its second generation, and it’s safe to assume there will be significant improvements in space, comfort, connectivity, and safety. No changes are expected to the engines or transmissions. A hybrid variant will be introduced at a later stage, by 2029.
