Next generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to go on sale in 2027 with massive revisions inside and out while mechanical changes are also likely

The next generation Toyota Fortuner is inching closer to reality with its global debut expected either towards the end of 2026 or spilling into early 2027. While Toyota has remained tight-lipped about exact timelines, multiple test prototypes spotted overseas indicate that the development phase is in its final stretch as the full-size SUV could reach markets like India not long after its international unveiling.

The upcoming Fortuner is set to take a more evolved and aggressive approach compared to the current model. Early sightings suggest a sharper front end featuring sleeker LED headlamps, a wider grille and a more sculpted bumper. The side profile is expected to retain its muscular stance but with prominent character lines, revised pillars and new alloy wheel design.

Around the back, a significant redesign is likely with a full-width LED light bar connecting the tail lamps and prominent Fortuner lettering across the tailgate. Step inside and the transformation is expected to be even more noticeable. Toyota may introduce a completely reworked cabin layout centred around giving a more premium appeal to consumers.

The dashboard could house twin 12.3-inch screens – one serving as the infotainment unit and the other as the digital instrument cluster. Alongside, features such as connected car technology, over-the-air updates and a 360-degree camera system are expected to be part of the package – pushing the Fortuner closer to global benchmarks in terms of equipment.

Further enhancing its appeal, the new model could also come equipped with features like a panoramic sunroof, upgraded climate control system and an expanded suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The new Fortuner is widely expected to move to Toyota’s TNGA-F ladder-frame platform which is already used by the new global Toyota Hilux.

The architecture is more advanced than the current setup and is engineered to improve structural strength, ride comfort and off-road capability. The switch to this platform could result in better handling while retaining the ruggedness the Fortuner is known for. Ever since its introduction, the Fortuner has built a strong reputation for durability and commanding road presence, and this next-generation model looks set to build on that legacy.
