The electric 2W sales hit a total sales reaching 1.39 lakh units as of March 27, 2026 as it moved past 1.31 lakh units sold during the same period last year

The good reception for zero-emission two-wheeler is more than evident in the domestic market in recent times and the sales numbers act as a definitive proof. The electric two-wheeler space is expected to hit a new high with total sales reaching 1.39 lakh units as of March 27, 2026. It has already moved past the 1.31 lakh units recorded during the same period last year and is now closing in on the all-time monthly peak of 1.45 lakh units seen late last year.

Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, demand hasn’t slowed and the doubts over a possible oil crisis has only accelerated the volume sales. In addition, the financial year end offers, PM subsidy deadline of March 31, 2026 which has now been extended till the end of July and aggressive discounting from top players like Ather Energy and Ola Electric have pushed consumers to act fast.

Looking at the full financial year, FY26 has witnessed a notable growth overall. The total electric two-wheeler sales stood at 1.35 million units – up from 1.15 million units in FY25. The figures represent a 17 per cent year-on-year growth supported by wider dealership networks that help approach more potential owners, new product launches giving more options to consumers and better charging infrastructure.

At the top of the leaderboard is TVS Motor Company which has crossed the 3.3 lakh mark this financial year courtesy of the expansive iQube range. It is a significant jump from 2.38 lakh units last year – making it the first brand to go past the 3 lakh annual milestone in this segment. The arrival of the more affordable Orbiter range which has also seen an expansion with the inclusion of V1 variant has helped its cause further.

Bajaj Auto follows in second place with 2.76 lakh units – improving from 2.31 lakh units. Meanwhile, Ather Energy has shown strong sales numbers as well – growing to around 2.3 lakh units from 1.31 lakh units – one of the biggest gains among established players. A major surprise comes from Hero MotoCorp which has nearly tripled its volumes to 1.39 lakh units compared to just under 50,000 units last year.

On the flip side, Ola Electric has seen a sharp drop with sales falling to 1.61 lakh units from 3.44 lakh units. Courtesy of multiple brands scaling up, new models entering the market and infrastructure improving vastly, the electric two-wheeler space is all set to take the next setup the coming FY.
