Nissan Tekton (4)

From Honda to Tata Motors, global and domestic brands to launch at least four new SUVs in India by next month

July will be a month packed with several premium car launches, both locally produced and imported. At least four of these new models will be SUVs, all largely road-focused.

1. Nissan Tekton

The Nissan Tekton, scheduled to debut on 9 July, will be a mechanical cousin of the all-new, third-generation Renault Duster. It will have a sharp and more sophisticated exterior inspired by the Nissan Patrol. The interior is likely to be largely similar in layout, though, differentiated mainly by colour scheme, accents, and such other minor changes.

Nissan will likely launch the Tekton with 99 hp 1.0- and 161 hp 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engines, both paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and the latter also with a 6-speed DCT option. The company should introduce a petrol-electric hybrid system based on a 1.8-litre engine sometime in early 2027.

2. Tata Sierra.ev

Tata Sierra EV (1)

The Tata Sierra.ev will be the brand’s second mid-size EV following the Curvv.ev, aimed squarely against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti e Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. It will be the only model in its segment offered in two drivetrain layouts: single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD. The pure electric variant of the Sierra will likely be further differentiated by vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging capability. It is expected to deliver a range of up to around 600 kilometres. Tata Motors plans to unveil the Sierra.ev on 30 June and will likely launch it in July.

The Honda ZR-V is the brand’s new global C-SUV, slotted between the HR-V and CR-V, and in India. It will be brought as a niche, brand-building model imported as a CBU from Japan in July. It will only be available with a 181 hp hybrid powertrain that delivers a fuel economy of 22.8 km/l. Honda will equip the ZR-V with features such as a 10.2-inch HD digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, power front seats with a memory function on the driver’s side, eight airbags, and a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems.

4. Skoda Kodiaq RS

Skoda Kodiaq RS

The Skoda Kodiaq RS is the go-fast variant of the Czech brand’s three-row SUV, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 261 hp and 400 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system are standard. A 0-100 km/h sprint takes 6.3 seconds in the five-seat version and 6.4 seconds in the seven-seat version, although only the latter is expected to be offered in India. Flat out, the Kodiaq RS hits 231 km/h. Skoda will open pre-orders on 22 June and announce the prices in July.
