Skoda Kodiaq RS is limited to just 50 units for India and its bookings are open for an initial token of Rs. 3 lakh; to become fastest Skoda SUV in India upon launch
Skoda Auto India has opened bookings for the Kodiaq RS – the sportier version of its second-generation three-row SUV. The model will be limited to 50 units for the Indian market and reservations can be made for a token amount of Rs. 3 lakh. Skoda is expected to price the Kodiaq RS above Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom) upon launch in the coming weeks.
The Kodiaq RS will sit above the Laurin & Klement variant as the new flagship of the Kodiaq range. Deliveries are expected to begin soon after the price announcement. It will arrive as the quickest and most powerful Skoda SUV offered in India as well reaffirming its performance credentials. Power is derived from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine churning out 265 hp and 400 Nm.
The engine is paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission while all-wheel drive is standard. Just as the international version, the Kodiaq RS can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 231 kmph in India. The RS version also receives hardware looking to sharpen road manners as adaptive chassis control, progressive steering and revised suspension tuning will be part of the package.
The VW Group’s MQB Evo architecture forms the base and the new Kodiaq measures over 4.75 metres in length. The exterior changes separate the RS from the regular Kodiaq variants. The front end gets a gloss black grille, RS-specific bumper, darker exterior elements and exclusive badging. The SUV also gains 20-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers.
The rear section carries a full-width lighting element and RS branding. The bumper design differs from the standard model while the black detailing extends across multiple exterior areas. Four paint options will be offered: Steel Grey, Velvet Red, Magic Black and Moon White. On the inside, the Kodiaq RS gets sport seats featuring integrated headrests, RS-specific upholstery, contrast stitching, and unique trim inserts.
The three-row seating layout will be retained while the regular Kodiaq equipment list will also be carried over. The cabin will get a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, cooled and powered front seats, wireless phone charging and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The safety and driver-assistance package is expected to comprise multiple airbags, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and ADAS functions. The latest Kodiaq already brought major gains in technology and safety over its predecessor and the RS will build on it.
