New EVs from some of the largest carmakers in India expected to be priced from around Rs. 12 lakh to over Rs. 20 lakh
India’s electric car market has seen a wave of new launches from mass-market brands over the last year. By early 2027, some of the largest carmakers in India, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai, will introduce several more high-volume models in this space.
Maruti Suzuki just launched the e Vitara and is already working on its second electric car. Codenamed ‘YMC’, the new Maruti EV will be a three-row MPV, but one featuring an SUV-like styling, borrowing the template from the Invicto. Spy shots suggest it will have a powerful exterior with a commanding stance and several e Vitara inspired design cues.
The Maruti YMC will likely be offered with a front-mounted motor producing 142 hp and 193 Nm of torque in the base variant and 172 hp and 193 Nm of torque in the top variant. The former should draw energy from a 49 kWh LFP battery pack and the latter from a 61 kWh LFP battery pack. The larger unit should provide a range of approximately 500 kilometres.

Tata Motors will likely launch two new electric cars over the course of the next six months. The first will be the Sierra.ev, which will debut on 30 June and likely go on sale in July. The Hyundai Creta Electric rival will be available in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants, likely with a range of up to around 600 kilometres. An independent rear suspension and vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging capability are also expected to be among its highlights.
By October, Tata Motors will likely launch the Safari.ev, challenging Mahindra’s XEV 9S and the upcoming MG three-row electric SUV codenamed ‘520’. The powertrains and battery packs will likely be shared with the Harrier.ev, and the same is expected for most of the features as well. The range will likely be lower for obvious reasons, possibly around 600 kilometres.

As for Hyundai, the South Korean automaker plans to launch a new entry-level electric SUV codenamed ‘He1i’ in early 2027. This model will feature a squarish exterior designed to look like a proper SUV, and it will have a touch of futuristic styling with pixel-inspired lights at the front and rear.
Inside, the upcoming Hyundai electric SUV will debut a new design language for the brand in India, incorporating more minimalism and a new cockpit display concept comprising a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 9.9-inch instrument cluster. Two battery packs are expected to be offered, both consisting of LFP cells sourced from Exide Energy, and the larger one should provide a range of 375-400 kilometres.
