Tata Motors continued its dominant run at the top of the EV sales charts in April 2026 as it led Mahindra, JSW MG and others in India

The zero-emission PV space registered 23,240 units in April 2026 with the top three – Tata Motors, Mahindra and JSW MG Motor – accounting for the overwhelming majority of sales. The month had a few interesting bits beyond the headline numbers including Vinfast and Maruti Suzuki both making strides and Kia posting the most eye-catching year-on-year growth figure in the entire table.

Tata Motors held the top spot with 8,543 units – up 3.5 per cent month-on-month from 8,253 units in March and a substantial 77.2 per cent ahead of April 2025. Its multiple model EV portfolio comprising the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV gives it a breadth that no other manufacturer currently matches in the segment.

Mahindra followed in second with 5,413 units as it endured a 3.2 per cent sequential growth and a massive 64 per cent year-on-year surge due to its INGLO platform based lineup – BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S. JSW MG Motor placed third with 5,006 units – down marginally from March’s 5,141 but still 32.5 per cent ahead of April 2025.

Maruti Suzuki was close behind at 1,231 units – up 29.7 per cent from 949 units in March as the e Vitara continues to find its footing in the midsize electric SUV space. It is available with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs with the claimed driving range going up to 543 km between charges.

Hyundai slipped 30.9 per cent year-on-year to 516 units despite an 8.4 per cent sequential uptick courtesy of the electrified Creta.
