Toyota’s hot-selling D-segment ladder-frame SUV likely to undergo a full model change around the end of the year

The current, second-generation Toyota Fortuner may be more than a decade old now, but it still performs well in India. An all-new, third-gen model is in the works to replace it, though, and it is likely to be launched within the next 12 months. Here are the top 5 changes expected to be seen on the next-gen Fortuner:

1. Sharper exterior

The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will have a sharper exterior based on the new “Cyber Sumo” design language that debuted on the ninth-gen Hilux last year. Slim headlights and tail lights and edgier bumpers will give it a more assertive and sophisticated look. Up top, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof will likely be offered in select trims.

2. Elegant interior

The interior of the next-gen Toyota Fortuner will be completely new and look noticeably classier while preserving the signature tough character loved by customers. There would be a new horizontal dashboard with a layered architecture that gives it a slimmer and more contemporary look.

The steering wheel should also carry an all-new look, featuring a sleek octagonal centre pad and chunky spokes. The centre console will also feature a new design, and it could be wider, offering more storage space and comfort. An electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function will further free up space.

3. Advanced driver assistance systems

Unlike the current Toyota Fortuner hydraulic steering wheel, the next-gen model will feature an electric power steering, paving the way for the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Unlike the second-gen model, it will likely be available with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Pre-Collision Safety (PCS) system, and Road Sign Assist (RSA) in the top trim.

4. Digital cockpit

The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will likely be offered a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter should include wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, satellite navigation, voice recognition, and an expanded range of connected car services.

5. Ventilated seats

Toyota does not offer ventilated seats in the current Fortuner, but in the next-gen model, it may equip ventilated seats at least in the first row in the top trim.
