Mahindra to double down on ICE SUVs in the coming years while still having a strong focus on electric vehicles
With a wave of new premium SUV models over the last few years, Mahindra has solidified its position among India’s top automakers. In 2025, the company was the country’s second-largest car brand. In the coming years, it will continue flooding the market with new products and timely refreshes of existing models to sustain momentum.
Detailing its mid-term product strategy at the Q4 FY2026 earnings conference call on 5 May, Mahindra revealed that it will launch 16 new models between FY2027 (April 2026-March 2027) and FY2031 (April 2030-March 2031). Rajesh Jejurikar, the Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s auto and farm divisions, announced the new development.
Of the 16 new launches, 7 will be the remaining models from the 16 products announced in May 2024, and 9 will be additional launches. Jejurikar revealed that 4 ICE SUVs and 3 EVs from the previous announcement are still pending, and Mahindra will bring 6 ICE SUVs and 3 EVs to the market on top of these previously announced products.

In total, 10 new ICE SUVs and 6 new EVs will be seen arriving in Mahindra showrooms by March 2031. According to Jejurikar’s presentation, of the 10 new ICE SUVs, one will be a facelifted version of an existing product, and the rest will all be new nameplates. This suggests that of the two models expected to be refreshed this year, namely the Scorpio-N and Thar, one could see a name change along with that update. Mahindra is known for renaming products within their lifecycle, with the XUV 700 being the most recent example.
In 2027, Mahindra will launch an all-new ICE SUV derived from the Vision.S concept, and this will be the first of several new products that will spawn from its NU_IQ multi-energy platform. A pure electric alternative to the Thar Roxx, derived from the Vision.T concept and based on the same new platform, may follow later in the same year. “We have at least 3-4 products which will come out of the NU_IQ platform,” Jejurikar said. One more new EV expected to go on sale in 2027 is the production version of the BE.07 concept, a potential Tata Harrier.ev rival.

In an interesting turn of events, Jejurikar suggested this model may not be based on the INGLO platform like the currently sold BE 6, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e as originally planned, but rather the NU_IQ platform. “We’re not doing more of the only EV because we’ve found a way to now do born EV or a grounds-up EV on the NU_IQ platform, while still doing ICE on the same platform,” he said.
