new 2027 hyundai i20 front

New generation Hyundai i20 is based on the K3 platform and is larger and more spacious than the outgoing model in Brazil

The prices of the new-gen Hyundai i20 has emerged in Brazil following its official debut and it brings a dramatic departure from the hatchback formula associated with previous generations. Instead of serving as a direct successor to the current model, the new i20 appears to position itself between a traditional premium hatchback and a compact crossover.

Dimensionally, the new i20 measures around 4.13 metres in length and 1.78 metres in width while riding on a 2,580 mm wheelbase and a bootspace of 346 L as the figures place it much closer to compact crossover territory than a conventional hatchback. Ground clearance has also been increased and extensive black body cladding around the wheel arches, bumpers and side skirts gives it a tougher stance.

Hyundai looks keen to attract customers who may otherwise consider compact SUVs. The front end gains sharp H-shaped lighting elements connected by a slim light bar stretching across the width of the nose. The headlamp units feature a triangular profile and the sides incorporate chunky wheel arch cladding with new 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a rising window line and concealed rear-quarter glass treatment.

For India, Hyundai employs familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines and it will be interesting to see the direction it takes upon moving to a new generation in the future. The 1.2-litre unit currently develops 83 hp and 115 Nm while the turbocharged motor produces 120 hp and 172 Nm.
