Maruti Suzuki Fronx is sold in an expansive range and it reached five lakh sales milestone in just over three years
Maruti Suzuki Fronx recently crossed the 5 lakh sales milestone in India – setting a new benchmark within the Nexa portfolio. No other Nexa product has reached the landmark as quickly reiterating the crossover’s extraordinary rise since its market debut in 2023. What makes the achievement even more impressive is that the Fronx entered one of India’s toughest segments.
It faces established rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite, Skoda Kylaq and Renault Kiger. In its launch year in 2023, the Fronx accumulated 94,393 units despite reaching dealerships only in April. The real breakthrough came in 2024 when annual volumes surged to 1,56,236 units.
The sales consistency led to a healthy acceleration in volumes further in 2025 as it climbed to 1,79,894 units – turning the Fronx into one of the country’s highest-selling utility vehicles. In the first five months of 2026 alone, the crossover has already amassed 82,306 units. A closer look at monthly sales shows how rapidly the vehicle climbed the rankings.

Volumes crossed 20,000 units for the first time in February 2025 when 21,461 units found homes. Another major spike arrived in December 2025 as sales touched 20,706 units. The upward trajectory has carried into 2026 with May emerging as the most favourable month so far at 20,686 units. These figures are typically associated with long-established market leaders.
One of the biggest contributors to this success has been the Fronx’s positioning. Instead of entering the market as a conventional compact SUV, Maruti Suzuki combined hatchback practicality with crossover styling. The sloping roofline, elevated ground clearance, wide stance and SUV-inspired design helped lure in customers searching for something different from a traditional hatchback.

The powertrain range has also played a major role too. Entry variants use a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 89 hp and 113 Nm while the transmission choices include a five-speed manual and AMT. Moving up the range, the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine delivering 99 hp and 147.6 Nm – coupled with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter automatic.
A factory-fitted CNG version is also available. Equipment levels have helped the Baleno-based Fronx appeal to a wider customer base as well. Depending on the variant, customers can access a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, cruise control, automatic climate control and connected car technology.

Safety equipment comprises six airbags on select variants, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD and so on. Another major factor behind the crossover’s rapid rise is timing. The domestic market has moved more towards SUV-inspired vehicles across virtually every price bracket. The Fronx arrived precisely when this trend was accelerating – allowing Maruti Suzuki to attract those upgrading from premium hatchbacks as well as those entering the utility vehicle category for the first time.
Products such as the Baleno and Grand Vitara have all played important roles within the premium Nexa retail network. Yet, the Fronx reached the 5 lakh milestone faster than all of them carrying aggressive price range between Rs. 6.85 lakh and Rs. 11.98 lakh (ex-showroom). With monthly volumes currently running at record levels and exports adding to further growth, the crossover has become a force to be reckoned with.
