Hyundai Bayon is expected to go on sale this festive season and it will be positioned above the Venue in the brand’s lineup
Hyundai’s upcoming Bayon-based compact SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads. The heavily camouflaged prototype was recently seen undergoing road tests and several design cues visible through the camouflage indicate that development is progressing ahead of its expected market arrival during the festive period of 2026.
The test mule looks to be based on the global Hyundai Bayon sold in Europe but the Indian version is expected to undergo substantial changes. From the latest spy images, the front fascia reveals vertically positioned lighting elements accompanied by slim LED daytime running lamps mounted higher up. The overall silhouette points towards a compact crossover body style featuring a relatively upright stance, roof rails and a high-set bonnet.
Large sections of the front and rear bumpers remain concealed suggesting that production-ready styling details are still being finalised. The rear section provides some interesting clues. The tailgate shape, rear windscreen angle and lighting placement appear different from existing Hyundai SUVs sold in India. Temporary lighting units can be seen beneath the camouflage while the bumper design remains completely hidden.

The Bayon-based SUV carries a longer rear overhang and a more crossover-inspired profile and the alloy wheels fitted to the prototype may make it to production. Internally known as BC4i, the new SUV is expected to occupy a position between the Venue and Creta. Hyundai is reportedly targeting customers seeking additional cabin space and road presence without moving into the higher price bracket occupied by the Creta.
Overall length could measure between 4.1 metres and 4.2 metres. Powertrain options are expected to be shared with other Hyundai products already sold in India. The familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine generating around 83 hp and 114 Nm could serve as the entry-level option. A more powerful 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol motor producing 120 hp and 172 Nm is also expected to feature prominently in the range.

Transmission choices may include a five-speed manual, six-speed iMT and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. Hyundai could equip the BC4i with a large touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, sunroof, wireless charging, connected car technology, 360-degree camera, ADAS functions, six airbags, and more.
