Norton Atlas and Atlas GT are equipped with a 585cc twin-cylinder engine, an 8-inch TFT and 6-axis IMU system

Norton Motorcycles has entered the middleweight adventure and sport-touring categories with the all-new Atlas and Atlas GT. Developed at the company’s Solihull headquarters in the United Kingdom, the new platform introduces a 585 cc parallel-twin engine, high-tech rider electronics and fully adjustable suspension hardware. While both motorcycles share the same architecture, the Atlas has been configured for mixed-surface riding whereas the Atlas GT is road based.

Power comes from a 585 cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin engine featuring a 270-degree crankshaft layout. The unit develops 69 bhp at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm at 7,300 rpm. Engine internals feature atmospheric plasma spray-coated cylinder surfaces, a 12.2:1 compression ratio, ride-by-wire throttle control and multi-point fuel injection. Norton has paired the motor with a six-speed gearbox, bi-directional quickshifter and assist-and-slipper clutch.

Fuel efficiency is rated at 23 kmpl while service intervals stand at 10,000 km. The engine sits inside a steel trellis frame and functions as a stressed member. A cast aluminium swingarm is fitted at the rear while the wet weight without fuel is listed at 188 kg for the standard Atlas and 192 kg for the Atlas Apex. Its fuel tank capacity stands at 15.4 litres and the seat height measures 845 mm with the ground clearance coming in at 220 mm and the wheelbase at 1,465 mm.

Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable KYB units. The Atlas receives 43 mm upside-down forks offering 180 mm wheel travel along with a KYB monoshock delivering another 180 mm at the rear. The Atlas GT gains a road-based setup featuring 140 mm travel at both ends. Compression, rebound and preload settings can be adjusted while the rear shock incorporates hydraulic preload adjustment.

Braking hardware comprises twin 310 mm semi-floating front discs paired with radially mounted ByBre calipers and a 270 mm rear disc. Norton has equipped the motorcycles with a Bosch six-axis IMU enabling lean-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control, wheelie control, rear slide control and cornering cruise control while the Apex variants add electronic combined braking and vehicle hold control.

The Atlas runs a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel arrangement suited to adventure touring duties while its sibling, the Atlas GT, switches to 17-inch wheels at both ends for quicker steering responses on tarmac. Eurogrip Explo R Plus tyres come fitted as standard. Both motorcycles also receive an 8-inch full-colour touchscreen TFT display with 720p resolution.

Other highlights are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, ride telemetry, GoPro control, over-the-air software updates and Norton Rider app integration. Five riding modes are available namely Urban, Rain, Sport, Tour and Enduro and additional equipment comprises keyless ignition, USB-C charging, multimedia controls and navigation support.

The British brand offers LED lighting throughout featuring twin-projector headlamps, integrated handguard indicators, signature daytime running lamps and multifunction rear lighting. Apex variants come with cornering lamps, puddle lights, heated grips, tyre pressure monitoring, adjustable windscreen and luggage mounting provisions. Norton is backing the Atlas range with a 36-month warranty package and roadside assistance support.
