Nissan Tekton is expected to go on sale before festive season and it will be based on the same localised platform as the new Duster

Nissan has been largely absent from India’s midsize SUV segment since the Terrano faded into the horizon and the Tekton is its attempt to fix that. The SUV is expected to arrive within the next few months sharing its platform with the recently launched Renault Duster and bringing a powertrain lineup that goes all the way up to a strong hybrid – a tech very few rivals in the segment currently offer.

The design takes inspiration from the global Nissan Patrol giving the Tekton a more upright and muscular character than the rounded crossover look most midsize SUVs lean toward. Squared wheel arches, a sculpted bonnet, pronounced shoulder lines, sleek lighting and a full-width rear light bar at the back are all expected to feature – a visual theme that should help it stand apart from competitors such as the Creta and Seltos.

Three powertrain options are expected. The entry point is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit with around 100 bhp and 160 Nm married with a manual gearbox. Step up and there is a 1.3-litre turbo producing around 163 bhp and 280 Nm available with both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions offered in an expansive range.

At the top sits a strong hybrid – a 1.8-litre petrol working with dual electric motors and a small battery for a combined output of around 160 bhp in a similar fashion to the latest Duster. Cabin details have not been officially confirmed but equipment is expected to closely follow the India-spec Duster as it will be brimmed with features and technologies.

A 10.1-inch infotainment system with integrated Google services, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated powered front seats, dual-zone climate control with an air purifier, wireless charging, sporty looking steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof are all likely. Six airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS should round out the safety package.
