In the list of top selling sedans in May 2026, Maruti Suzuki Dzire finished first by a big margin ahead of one of its main rivals Hyundai Aura
The sedan segment posted healthy growth in May 2026 with total sales rising 20.9 per cent year-on-year to 37,055 units. While SUVs continue to dominate the passenger vehicle market, the sedan category received a major boost from the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which alone accounted for more than two-thirds of all sedan sales during the month.
The Dzire remained firmly at the top of the rankings with 24,546 units – registering a 35.7 per cent increase over May 2025. The compact sedan commanded a massive 66.2 per cent share of the segment courtesy of the good reception for the new generation which arrived a year and a half ago. No other sedan managed to cross 6,000 unit sales during the month.
The Hyundai Aura held on to second position with 5,077 units despite a marginal 2.8 per cent decline year-on-year. Honda’s Amaze secured third place with 2,660 units and recorded a healthy 33.1 per cent increase and it also received a new-gen around the same time as the Dzire in the domestic market.
