Courtesy of good reception for its EV range, Tata Motors has gone past the 10,000 monthly EV registrations for the first time in May 2026
Tata Motors has achieved a major milestone in India’s electric PV market by crossing 10,000 monthly EV registrations for the first time. The company recorded 10,326 EV registrations in May 2026 – reporting a massive 102 per cent year-on-year growth while retaining its position as the country’s leading zero-emission vehicle manufacturer.
The achievement comes at a time when Tata is preparing to further consolidate its electrified portfolio with upcoming launches such as the Sierra EV, Safari EV and the first production model from the Avinya series. Instead of being concentrated in just a handful of metropolitan cities, Tata’s EV registrations were spread across multiple regions as Maharashtra emerged as the largest contributor.
The state saw a total of 1,382 electric vehicle registrations was it narrowly finished first ahead of Rajasthan at 1,302 units. Meanwhile, Telangana secured third position with 1,141 registrations while Kerala and Tamil Nadu completed the top five with 1,057 and 732 registrations respectively. One of the notable takeaways from the data is the significant contribution from emerging EV markets.

Uttar Pradesh recorded 731 registrations while Delhi and Gujarat registered 584 and 532 units respectively. Karnataka was another major market with 531 registrations. All in all, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Kerala accounted for 4,882 registrations – nearly 47 per cent of Tata’s total EV volume during the month of May.
The numbers also show the good reception for the expansive Tata EV range. Models such as the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Harrier EV have enabled the brand to appeal to first-time EV customers as well as premium SUV users. Continued investments in charging infrastructure, battery technology and after-sales support have also contributed to the acceptance across both metropolitan and non-metro regions.
