Toyota dominated the proceedings with Innova Hycross recording a total of 4,100 units in April 2026 but it endured a 35.5 per cent MoM drop
The hybrid PV market witnessed a noticeable slowdown in April 2026 after posting appreciable volumes in the previous month. The total hybrid car sales dropped to 8,600 units compared to 11,073 units recorded in March 2026 resulting in a month-on-month decline of 22.3 per cent. Despite the overall drop, Toyota continued to dominate the segment while Maruti Suzuki emerged as the biggest gainer with multiple models posting positive growth.
The Toyota Innova Hycross retained its position as the highest-selling hybrid vehicle in the country with 4,100 units dispatched during April 2026. However, the premium MPV experienced a 35.5 per cent decline compared to the 6,357 units registered in March. Even with the fall, the Innova Hycross alone contributed nearly half of the entire hybrid vehicle market volumes for the month.
Its sibling, the Toyota Hyryder, secured the second position with 2,657 units. The midsize SUV posted a 16.7 per cent month-on-month decline but continued to remain one of the strongest selling hybrid SUVs in the country. The popularity of strong hybrid midsize SUVs has been increasing steadily in India due to their high fuel efficiency and lower running costs.

The five-seater recorded 793 units and emerged as the fastest growing hybrid vehicle in the market with a massive 116.1 per cent month-on-month increase. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara also registered positive volumes with 426 unit sales and a 5.4 per cent increase over March 2026. The Grand Vitara is offered in an expansive range and is sold through the premium Nexa dealerships as opposed to the Arena outlets for Victoris and it has been a consistent seller thanks to its hybrid technology and fuel economy figures.
