Manufactured in China, Tesla Model Y L now on sale in more than ten markets across the Asia-Pacific region
Following the Model Y in July last year, Tesla is all set to hold its second launch in India – the Model Y L. As the name suggests, the Model Y L is simply a derivative of the Model Y, not an all-new product.
The Model Y L is a long-wheelbase version of the Model Y. At 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, it is 186 mm longer and 44 mm taller, but just as wide. The wheelbase, at 3,040 mm, is 150 mm longer. A crucial change worth noting in a country with poor roads like ours is that the laden ground clearance drops by 16 mm to just 122 mm.
While the regular Model Y is available in 5- and 7-seat versions, the Model Y L accommodates six people in a more comfort-oriented 2+2+2 seating layout. Both second-row seats feature a retractable armrest on the inner side and offer power two-way folding and heating functions. A ventilation function is not available in the second-row seats. In the third row, Tesla uses a 50:50-split seat and offers features such as USB Type-C ports, cupholders, and C-pillar- mounted AC vents.

The Tesla Model Y L offers 2,539 litres of cargo space with the second- and third-row seats folded, as opposed to the Tesla Model Y’s 2,138 litres. Both second- and third-row seats can be folded via buttons in the cargo area. The frunk capacity is the same – 116 litres.
Tesla manufactures the Model Y L only in a dual-motor AWD configuration, in which it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in five seconds flat, achieve a top speed of 201 km/h, and travel up to 681 kilometres on a single charge, as per WLTP. Unlike the Model Y, the Model Y L comes with a vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging function, which can be used to power devices and appliances and also charge e-bikes.

The Tesla Model Y L is visually differentiated by exclusive 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels. An exclusive Cosmic Silver paint option allows customers to further distinguish it. Tesla plans to launch the Model Y L in India on 22 April and may price it around Rs. 73 lakh (ex-showroom).
