Czech automaker’s new high largely attributed to the Kylaq compact SUV, its only offering in the sub-4 metre segment
Building on the success of the Kylaq, Skoda is regaining lost ground in the Indian car market. The company delivered 38,894 cars in the first half of 2026, recording its highest half-yearly volume in its 26-year history.
With the affordable Kylaq driving new customers into showrooms and the brand gaining more market buzz with enthusiast-focused imports such as the Octavia RS and Kodiaq RS, the Czech automaker is seeing a surge in sales in India. The company’s sales in the first half of 2026 were 7.5% higher than in the same period last year (36,194 units).
Skoda has not revealed any model-specific sales figures for the first half of the year. However, based on retail sales data of the first five months, the Kylaq should have been the chief contributor to the 38,894-unit volume. The company sold 19,954 units of the sub-4 metre SUV between January and May.
The Slavia’s sales volumes have dropped to three-digit numbers in recent months. Between January and May, Skoda sold 6,198 units of the VW Virtus’ corporate cousin. The Kushaq has been picking up pace following the facelift earlier this year, although it remains extremely low compared to the competition. Skoda delivered just 5,911 units of the Hyundai Creta rival between January and May.
As for imports, Skoda’s only offering in this space currently is the Kodiaq. The company imports the D-segment SUV’s CKD kits from the Czech Republic and assembles them in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. However, the recently launched RS variant of the VW Tayron rival is a CBU import, and its availability is limited to 50 units. Skoda sold 611 units of the regular Kodiaq between January and May.
Later this quarter, Skoda will likely roll out the long-overdue facelift for the Slavia. The company is likely to bring several exterior design revisions, but it is likely to keep the interior largely unchanged visually. It will likely introduce new features such as full-LED headlamps and tail lamps, rear dynamic turn signals, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and upgraded AC. The 6-speed automatic transmission is expected to be an 8-speed unit that operates more efficiently and improves fuel economy by around 5%. The engines should remain unchanged.
