Maruti Suzuki Kharkhoda 2nd plant will be capable of producing 1 million vehicles per year when fully operational at its intended scale

The second plant at Maruti Suzuki’s Kharkhoda facility in Haryana has commenced commercial production – adding 2.5 lakh units of annual capacity to the existing 2.5 lakh units at the first plant. The total capacity at Kharkhoda now stands at 5 lakh units with Maruti’s overall annual production capacity across Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda and Hansalpur in Gujarat rising to 26.5 lakh units.

The Kharkhoda facility was founded when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in August 2022. When fully operational at its intended scale, the plant will be capable of producing 1 million vehicles per year – placing it among the largest four wheeler manufacturing locations in the Suzuki global network.

The Brezza compact SUV and the Victoris midsize SUV are currently being manufactured at the facility with production set to expand as volumes at the plant build up over time. The capacity addition is in line with the plan Maruti Suzuki had indicated earlier to add 5 lakh units of annual production capacity during FY2026-27.

With pending customer orders at approximately 1,90,000 units at the close of FY2026 – including nearly 1,30,000 in the small car segment alone – the additional capacity addresses a supply constraint that has been limiting the company’s ability to convert demand into deliveries. In addition to the production expansion, Maruti Suzuki has an active product pipeline that will give rise to both ICE and electric vehicles through to 2031.

The e Vitara, launched earlier this year, was the brand’s first battery electric vehicle for India and has already reached 44 countries in export markets. Three more electric vehicles are planned by 2031 as part of a four EV roadmap – covering different segments and price points as the brand looks to build scale in the electric space from its current position.

On the ICE front, the Brezza facelift has been extensively spotted testing in recent months with a launch expected in the coming months bringing a larger touchscreen, a new six speed manual gearbox and an underbody CNG tank as key updates. The Baleno and Fronx are also due for updates with test mules caught on camera pointing to exterior and interior revisions for both models.

The YMC, an all new seven seat electric MPV being developed in collaboration with Toyota, is expected by end 2026 or early 2027. It will share components with the e Vitara and target pricing below the Kia Carens Clavis EV. Further ahead, Maruti is also developing a budget zero-emission offering and more compact models.
