Taking design inspiration from the Scorpio N, the Mahindra Vision S based compact SUV could be positioned just above the popular XUV 3XO
A tailgate-mounted spare wheel, squared-off proportions, prominent wheel arches and a tall upright stance – the Vision S-based compact SUV from Mahindra appears to be taking the brand’s muscular design language and packaging it into a more compact footprint than anything currently in the lineup and it is a proven philosophy which has historically helped the brand garner high volume sales.
A 2027 launch is expected with the model slotting above the XUV 3XO and below the Scorpio N – addressing a gap in the range that has existed for a while. This particular segment has not been leveraged by any other brand effectively yet and thus Mahindra seems to eye a perfect opportunity and as ever, we can expect it to be priced competitively.
Speculated to cost just under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant, the sub-four-metre SUV will ride on the NU_IQ monocoque platform – a new architecture developed specifically to underpin multiple future utility vehicles from Mahindra. The platform brings better interior space utilisation, improved ride quality and sharper driving characteristics according to the brand.
Powertrain options are expected to be carried across from the XUV 3XO. The 1.2-litre TGDi turbo petrol producing around 131 hp and 230 Nm is anticipated alongside the 1.5-litre diesel delivering as much as 117 hp and 300 Nm. Transmission choices could include a six-speed manual, a torque converter automatic and an AMT.
On the inside, top-level variants are expected to feature a large touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, cruise control and a rear armrest while mid-level trims may get a semi-digital instrument cluster and essential features. Despite the compact exterior dimensions relative to the Scorpio N, the NU_IQ platform should allow for a spacious cabin and a usable boot – two areas where monocoque architecture typically has an advantage over ladder-frame rivals.
In the competitive space, the Vision S-based SUV will likely go up against the Renault Bridger and Kia Syros when it arrives in 2027 – both of which are targeting a similar customer profile in the compact SUV bracket. The compact SUV also fits within Mahindra’s expansion plan of 16 launches by 2031 with nine entirely new ICE nameplates forming the bulk of the incoming product pipeline.
