Hyundai Motor used the Auto China 2026 stage in Beijing to unveil the Ioniq V while officially launching the Ioniq brand in China and announcing one of the more ambitious product roadmaps any foreign automaker has put on the table there in recent memory as it looks to increase its sales numbers in the world’s largest EV market.

The Korean auto major has confirmed twenty new models over the next five years specifically along with a combined investment of 8 billion yuan into Beijing Hyundai and joint venture partner BAIC Group to achieve a target of five lakh units in annual sales and beyond. To highlights its willingness to the project, a brand new model has been unveiled.

The Ioniq V is the first product under the renewed push and it has been developed specifically for the Chinese market rather than carried over from a global platform. Derived from the Venus Concept, the Ioniq V introduces Hyundai’s new design language called The Origin for its all-electric lineup. Exterior dimensions come in at 4,900 mm in length and 1,890 mm in width and it rides on a 2,900 mm wheelbase.

The long range variant delivers over 600 kilometres on a single charge under the CLTC standard. The exterior carries a smooth single-curve silhouette with edge lighting that sharpens the face and visually widens the stance. Frameless doors and floating side mirrors reduce drag while sticking by the premium character Hyundai is going for.

Stepping on the inside, a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display is presented prominently in the cockpit and is complemented by a head-up display. First-row legroom measures 1,078 mm and second-row legroom comes in at 1,019 mm with shoulder room of 1,502 mm at the front and 1,473 mm at the rear. An eight-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system is standard across the range.

On the technology front, a large language model-based Smart AI Assistant powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset handles voice-based control of key vehicle functions. Advanced driver assistance systems developed with Momenta support a wide range of driving scenarios. Safety hardware includes a nine airbags, a reinforced body structure and a Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist function that provides emergency braking support to prevent unintended acceleration.

Beijing Hyundai has an additional SUV confirmed for the first half of 2027 with a rollout of both battery electric and extended-range electric vehicles to follow across midsize to large segments through the rest of the five-year plan. China is the most competitive electric vehicle market and Hyundai has openly acknowledged it needs to move faster and smarter to stay relevant and Ioniq V is just the opening act!
