New Hyundai Venue (18)

In FY26 sales, Hyundai finished fourth in the overall manufacturers’ rankings with a domestic total of 5,84,906 units and a 2 per cent YoY decline

The FY26 sales performance of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) shows the current state of the passenger vehicle space as SUVs continue to dominate while hatchbacks and some sedans are losing ground big time. The Korean brand ended the financial year with total dispatches of 5,84,906 units – down 2 per cent compared to FY25.

The Creta once again sits at the top of Hyundai’s portfolio due to its ever existing popularity. With 2,01,921 units sold in FY26, it not only remains the brand’s highest-selling model but also posted a 4 per cent growth as it accounted over one-third of the total volume. The sales demand for the midsize SUV hasn’t slowed despite increasing competition.

Next up is the Venue which continues to be a strong contributor with 1,17,737 units. However, it saw a slight 1 per cent decline year-on-year. While the drop isn’t significant, it does indicate ever-growing competition in the compact SUV segment where newer rivals are constantly entering the space. The arrival of the brand new generation has helped in posting consistent numbers.

One of the biggest positives for Hyundai this year is the Aura. The compact sedan registered a solid 24 per cent growth with sales rising to 68,066 units. The tally is notable at a time when sedans are generally struggling – suggesting that the Aura still has a decent demand – mainly in fleet and budget-conscious private segments.

The Exter, however, couldn’t sustain its initial buzz. With 66,877 units sold, it recorded a 14 per cent drop. Hyundai’s hatchback lineup continues to face challenges. The Grand i10 saw sales fall 9 per cent to 56,750 units while the i20 dropped by a similar margin to 50,596 units. The Alcazar had a tougher year too.

Its volumes decline steeply by 28 per cent to 12,393 units. The three-row SUV space has become crowded and the Alcazar seems to be feeling the heat from more feature-loaded alternatives.
