In the list of top 20 car brands by retail in April 2026, Maruti Suzuki headed the standings ahead of Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai

The PV retail market garnered 4,07,355 unit sales in April 2026 – down 7.45 per cent from 4,40,144 units sold during the previous month. The sequential decline has been largely expected as March typically sees elevated retail as dealers push to close the financial year on a high. Most brands in the top 20 posted month-on-month dips but a handful bucked the trend with notable gains.

Maruti Suzuki, the largest carmaker in the country, retained its commanding lead at the top with 1,58,509 retail units in April 2026 – holding a 39.26 per cent share of the market as of March. The sequential decline of 8.28 per cent from March’s 1,72,814 units is in line with the post financial year correction seen across the industry.

Tata followed in second with 57,688 units – down 12.31 per cent from 65,784 units in March while Mahindra placed third with 55,236 units as it endured a 9.49 per cent sequential dip from 61,029 units. Hyundai held fourth with a domestic retail tally of 47,449 units – posting the smallest decline among the top five at just 2.75 per cent from March’s 48,791 units.
