In the first half of 2026, sales in the luxury car segment increased by 4 per cent as BMW Group led the way ahead of Mercedes-Benz

The volume sales in the luxury car space in the first half of 2026 saw a total of 26,688 units enabling an increase of 4 per cent over the corresponding period last year according to Vahan data. The figures show BMW Group India retaining the top position ahead of Mercedes-Benz India while Land Rover India continued to hold third place.

Audi, Volvo and Lexus ended the six-month period in positive territory whereas brands including Porsche recorded declines compared to H1 2025. BMW Group India remained the largest luxury car manufacturer in the country during the January to June 2026 period after retailing 10,043 units. The company posted 15 per cent year-on-year growth and accounted for 38 per cent of the total luxury vehicle market.

Crossing the 10,000 unit sales mark in just six months also led BMW to widen the gap over its closest rival despite healthy competition across multiple vehicle segments in the luxury realm. Mercedes-Benz India occupied second position after posting a total of 9,472 units. The German luxury marque held a 35 per cent share of the market but recorded a 3 per cent decline compared to the first half of last year.Mercedes-GLE-and-GLS-Night-Edition-1.jpg
