Renault has simplified the 2026 Kwid lineup to just two variants but the equipment gap between Evolution and Climber makes the buying decision more interesting
Renault recently updated the Kwid in India with a refreshed exterior, revised branding and a simplified variant structure. The hatchback is now available in just Evolution and Climber trims replacing the wider lineup offered previously. Both variants continue to use the familiar 1.0-litre petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox options but the equipment list differs enough to influence which version offers better value.
The Evolution variant now serves as the entry point into the 2026 Kwid range. Despite being the base trim, Renault has equipped it with many features that were previously reserved for higher grades. Consumers get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, a monochrome digital instrument cluster, front power windows and remote keyless entry.
Safety equipment is also comprehensive with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability programme, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear parking sensors. Customers looking for a more distinctive appearance can move to the Climber variant. Renault has retained the Climber as the flagship trim and added multiple cosmetic upgrades to separate it from the Evolution.

Dual-tone exterior paint, body cladding, faux skid plates, Climber badging, ORVM-mounted turn indicators and dual-tone wheel covers give it a more SUV-inspired appeal in a budget-friendly price tag. The cabin also receives a two-tone theme, chrome-finished inside door handles and additional convenience equipment.
Besides the styling changes, the Climber introduces several practical upgrades. Rear power windows, steering-mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs and a rear parcel tray improve day-to-day usability. Renault has also consolidated safety by adding side airbags and a reverse parking camera – making the Climber the better-equipped option for family users. These additions complement the standard safety package already available in the Evolution variant.

Mechanically, there is no difference between the two trims. Both continue with Renault’s 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with either a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission. The hatchback also retains its 184 mm ground clearance, 279-litre boot and compact dimensions. Renault has positioned both variants aggressively to improve the Kwid’s value proposition. The simplified range also makes it easier for customers to choose a variant without navigating multiple trim levels.
For buyers on a tighter budget, the Evolution already boasts the essentials by combining touchscreen infotainment, smartphone connectivity, stability control and a good safety package. However, those willing to spend a little more will find the Climber considerably more attractive thanks to its additional equipment, improved styling and extra safety features. The side airbags, reverse camera, electrically adjustable ORVMs and dual-tone cabin alone make it feel noticeably more premium. Here we have listed the variant-wise features:
