From Tata Motors to Mercedes-Benz, multiple carmakers to introduce new mainstream, premium, and luxury cars in India in June

From the new Tata Tiago and Tiago.ev to the new Honda City, MG Majestor, and BMW 4 Series Convertible, several new cars were launched in May. June will be an even more interesting month for India’s auto industry, with seven new cars planned for launch.

In the mass-market segments, Tata Motors is likely to introduce the Sierra.ev, the pure electric variant of the all-new Sierra. Unlike its ICE donor, the electric mid-size SUV should be available in RWD and AWD drivetrain layouts, with a range of up to around 600 kilometres. It will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, VinFast VF 6, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

In the premium segments, BYD plans to launch a new plug-in hybrid SUV this month, and it will likely be the Sealion 6. The D-segment SUV is capable of hitting 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.5 seconds and delivering an electric range of up to 140 kilometres (SoC 20-100%), as per NEDC. It should be positioned below the all-electric Sealion 7.

Honda will re-enter India’s premium car segment with the launch of the ZR-V, a C-SUV positioned between the HR-V and CR-V globally. The company manufactures it in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants, and it is importing the latter to India as a CBU from Japan. The ZR-V Hybrid hits 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and returns a fuel economy of 22.8 km/l.

Skoda will strengthen its position as a driving enthusiast-focused brand with the launch of the Kodiaq RS this month. The company offers the Kodiaq RS in 5- and 7-seat versions globally, but it is likely to bring only the latter to India. The go-fast variant of the Kodiaq takes just 6.3 seconds for a 0-100 km/h sprint and maxes out at 231 km/h. It will likely be imported as a CBU from the Czech Republic.

In the luxury space, the BMW X6 is set to return to the Indian market, exclusively in the M60i variant. Sporting a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech, the large SUV-coupe hits 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and achieves an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. BMW will import the X6 as a CBU from the U.S. and has started accepting pre-bookings.

On June 17, MINI will launch the Countryman C, which, unlike the Countryman Electric, will be locally assembled from imported knocked-down kits. The funky C-SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which comes linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
