Mahindra XEV 9S sat on top of the EV sales charts in February 2026 ahead of MG Windsor EV, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XEV 9e and Harrier EV

The electric EV market saw its total sales rise to 20,616 units last month compared to 16,456 units in January 2026 with a healthy 25.3 per cent month-on-month increase. The latest numbers show that demand continued to build across both mainstream and premium EV nameplates while the top-selling model chart was led by Mahindra’s recently launched XEV 9S. As for OEMs, Tata remained the overall market leader in February but Mahindra emerged as the biggest mover of the month.

Tata Motors finished February 2026 at the top of the OEM standings with 7,982 units but its volumes fell from 8,616 units in January – resulting in a 7.4 per cent month-on-month decline. Even then, Tata held a commanding 38.7 per cent market share. Mahindra & Mahindra was a close second with 7,168 units – up massively from 3,660 units in January registering a 95.8 per cent month-on-month growth and securing 34.8 per cent of the market. MG Motor followed in third with 3,642 units against 3,731 units in January – posting a 2.4 per cent decline and taking a 17.7 per cent share.

Maruti Suzuki entered the EV sales chart in fourth with 870 units and a 4.2 per cent market share while Kia stood fifth with 653 units – up from 178 units in January and recording a 266.9 per cent month-on-month growth. Hyundai ended the month with 278 units – up 12.6 per cent over 247 units in January while Citroen remained at the bottom with 23 units – slightly lower than its 24 unit sales tally in the previous month.

In the model-wise top 10 chart, Mahindra’s XEV 9S emerged as the best-selling EV in the country with 3,539 units. MG Windsor secured second place with 2,599 units while Tata Nexon EV came third with 2,410 units. Mahindra’s XEV 9e followed in fourth with 1,889 units – showing the growing acceptance of the brand’s born-electric range.

Tata Harrier EV rounded out the top five with 1,738 units as it finished ahead of Tata Curvv EV in sixth at 1,250 units and Tata Tiago EV in seventh at 1,226 units. The eighth position went to Mahindra BE6 with 1,104 units while Tata Punch EV stood ninth with 1,061 units. Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara completed the top 10 list with 870 units in its first full appearance on the chart.

Just outside the top 10 were MG Comet with 699 units and Kia Carens Clavis EV with 653 units and they were followed by Mahindra XUV3XO EV at 474 units and MG ZS EV at 344 units. Further down the rankings, Tata Tigor EV posted 297 units, Hyundai Creta Electric managed 278 units and Mahindra XUV400 recorded 162 units. Citroen eC3 remained a very low-volume player at 23 units. At the same time, Kia EV6, Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 registered zero units during the month.
