Ather will introduce its first EL platform based scooter at the Community Day on August 29 and it will target high volume sales
For years, Ather Energy built its reputation around premium electric scooters. A series of developments over the past few weeks suggests the Bengaluru-based manufacturer will look to garner higher market share in the electric two-wheeler market in the near future as Hero MotoCorp’s board has approved an investment of up to Rs. 1,000 crore in Ather Energy.
It is a big move in their partnership that stretches back almost a decade. The funding comes as Ather prepares its next product cycle as the capital gives the company additional room for product development, manufacturing, charging infrastructure and software while new models move closer to production. The Rizta has changed the company’s sales profile within a short period – turning into its highest volume product and pushing dispatches to record levels.
It has placed Ather in a better position before it enters another high volume segment with the EL platform-based scooter. Before that scooter arrives, Ather has already revised its existing products. The Rizta now gets LFP battery cells on selected variants while the battery packs across the 450 and Rizta families have also been updated.

The 450S and 450X continue with a 2.9 kWh battery offering claimed IDC range figures of 122 km and 126 km respectively while the larger pack has increased to 3.5 kWh with a claimed IDC range of 161 km. The move to LFP chemistry is expected to improve durability and thermal stability without affecting the certified driving range.
Community Day on August 29 could become Ather’s biggest product event so far. The company has already confirmed that the first scooter based on the EL platform will make its public debut there and it could be priced around Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom). Developed for a lower price band than the 450 family and the Rizta, the EL architecture is expected to underpin a new generation of electric scooters.

Reports suggest battery capacities ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh – giving Ather enough flexibility to develop multiple products from the same platform over the coming years. Ather has previously confirmed work on the Zenith architecture for electric motorcycles and Community Day has emerged as a possible stage for a brand new concept. Even if the production motorcycle arrives later, its presence could give a sneak-peek of Ather’s ambitions that now extend well beyond scooters.
