Xiaomi YU7 GT uses a dual motor all wheel drive setup producing up to 990 hp and of which 386 hp goes to the front axle and 604 hp to the rear
Just two days before the official reveal of the YU7 GT in China, Xiaomi chief test driver Ren Zhoucan put the performance YU7 GT SUV at the top of the production SUV lap record board by clocking 7 minutes and 34.931 seconds around the Nurburgring Nordschleife and displacing the Audi RS Q8 Performance which had held the mark at 7:36.698 since 2024.
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT previously sat at 7:38.925 set in 2021. Ren also became the first Chinese driver to receive official Nurburgring lap certification through the process. The record run happened last month with Xiaomi releasing the telemetry data and onboard footage publicly a couple of days ago.
The car used for the attempt was fitted with the optional Track Package. At 5,015 mm long, 2,007 mm wide, 1,597 mm tall and 2,460 kg in kerb weight, the YU7 GT is not a car that looks like it belongs at the top of a Nurburgring leaderboard on paper – yet the lap time puts it nearly two seconds clear of the Audi.
The powertrain behind the record is the HyperEngine V8S EVO – a dual motor all wheel drive setup producing up to 990 hp with 386 hp going to the front axle and 604 hp to the rear. The motor spins to 28,000 rpm using a self developed silicon carbide power module and 0.15 mm ultra thin silicon steel laminations with a highly impressive claimed efficiency of 98.38 per cent.
The 101.7 kWh battery pack runs on an 800 volt architecture with a claimed CLTC range of 705 km on a single charge and a 10 to 80 per cent charge time in 12 minutes. Its top speed is rated at 300 kmph. The chassis setup used for the record is the Jialong Chassis Master Edition which is developed and tuned at the Nurburgring through testing sessions that began as far back as September 2024.
Some of the highlights are Akebono carbon ceramic brakes with six piston callipers at the front and four piston callipers at the rear handling stopping duties and 295 mm rear tyres providing the contact patch the power demands. It must be noted that this is Xiaomi’s second Nurburgring record as the SU7 Ultra electric sedan set the production EV lap record in 2025 at 7:04.95 before later posting a 6:22.091 – placing it among the fastest production based cars ever at the circuit.
The YU7 GT has officially launched in China with display vehicles already at 268 stores across 82 cities ahead of the event. Pricing starts at around CNY 400,000 (Rs. 56.59 lakh) which is well above the standard YU7 which launched last June at CNY 253,500 (Rs. 35.86 lakh).
