Tata Motors to roll out new EVs to cover new premium segments as it goes beyond chasing volumes and places greater focus on profitability
Tata Motors is India’s largest electric car manufacturer, and one of the reasons behind its lead is offering the widest line-up, covering multiple segments. Later this year, the company will launch two new Tata EVs, as well as one EV from a new brand.
Sometime between July and September, Tata Motors is likely to introduce the Tata Sierra.ev. Adapted from the all-new Tata Sierra launched last year, this will be an electric mid-size SUV slotted below the Tata Harrier.ev.
Tata Motors has revealed the exterior of the Sierra.ev partially, and as expected, the silhouette is no different from the ICE donor. Most changes are located at the front, which looks cleaner. The electric variant has a sleeker nose section with a body-coloured faux grille and a thicker full-width daytime running light without any additional DRL modules below along the edges give the EV.

While the all-new Sierra uses plenty of gloss black panels in the upper half of the front, the Sierra.ev will have them in the bottom. The side profile will be completely identical, and the same is expected for the rear and the interior. Tata Motors will include a few EV-specific functions in the dashboard displays and also offer a few additional features, such as a frunk and bi-directional charging capability, for instance.
Tata Motors will likely launch the Sierra.ev in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants, with a range of up to approximately 600 kilometres. Unlike the regular Sierra, the Sierra.ev should have a multi-link rear suspension.

In late October, Tata Motors will likely launch the Safari.ev, the pure electric variant of the Safari. Save for a few minor design modifications, such as an enclosed upper grille, a unique lower air intake, and more aerodynamic 19-inch alloy wheels, it should look the same as the Safari. The interior will likely have even fewer differences, like new software for the dashboard displays, for instance. Like the Sierra.ev, it should have bi-directional charging capability and feature a frunk.
The Tata Safari.ev will likely be offered in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants. The former should have a 65 kWh LFP battery pack as standard and be available with a 75 kWh LFP unit as an option, while the latter should get the bigger battery pack as standard. Depending on the configuration, the three-row EV will likely be able to travel up to around 600 kilometres on a single charge. The Safari.ev should offer improved ride comfort with a multi-link rear suspension featuring frequency-dependent dampers.

In December, Tata Motors could unveil the first model of its new Avinya brand of premium EVs, which will be designed and engineered from the ground up. Avinya EVs won’t carry a Tata badge, and the first product under this brand should be a low-slung, C-segment ‘Sportback’ model inspired by the Avinya concept. This model will likely have a sharp, futuristic exterior and a minimalist interior. We expect it to be based on a rear-biased skateboard platform and deliver a range of around 700 kilometres.
