Audi Q4 e-tron facelift becomes the first model from the brand to feature bidirectional charging technology
Audi has updated its best-selling global electric SUV the Q4 e-tron with a set of improvements inside and out. The refreshed model goes on sale across Europe from May 2026 with deliveries expected to begin over the summer. Prices in Germany start at 47,500 euros (Rs. 52.49 lakh) for the entry-level 63 kWh SUV variant with Quattro all-wheel drive models priced from 55,900 euros (Rs. 61.78 lakh). The Sportback body style carries a 1,950 euro premium (Rs. 2.15 lakh) over the equivalent SUV version.
The headline addition on the updated Q4 e-tron is bidirectional charging which makes it the first Audi model to support this technology. Through the Vehicle-to-Load function, the car can power external electrical devices via a 2.3 kW domestic socket located in the boot or through an optional adapter at the side charging port that also supports a 3.6 kW camping socket. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Vehicle-to-Home functionality takes this further allowing the Q4 e-tron’s battery to serve as supplementary home energy storage – particularly effective when paired with a rooftop solar setup.
The system operates between 20 and 80 per cent state of charge and all discharge activity is logged as a mileage equivalent through a virtual odometer displayed in the car. DC charging capacity has also been increased on the 82 kWh Quattro variants – rising from 175 kW to 185 kW. At a compatible fast charger, this allows a 10 to 80 per cent charge to be completed in around 27 minutes with up to 185 km of range recoverable in just ten minutes. Plug and Charge is now standard equipment enabling the car to automatically authenticate itself and begin charging without any manual input from the driver.
The updated APP350 electric motor uses silicon carbide semiconductors in its pulse inverter which reduce switching losses and improve overall efficiency by around 10 per cent compared to the previous unit. A newly developed low-viscosity lubricant in the transmission cuts friction losses and can add up to 12 km of range in cold weather on its own. Rear-wheel drive models with the 63 kWh battery see a range gain of around 30 km while all-wheel drive variants improve by between 16 and 32 km depending on specification.
The Q4 Sportback e-tron in top trim now offers up to 592 km on a single charge. The interior has received a new digital stage which forms the centrepiece of the redesign comprising an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen. An optional 12-inch passenger display with a customisable standby screen is also available. The new One Connected Infotainment system brings ChatGPT integration alongside an Audi assistant that handles voice commands for vehicle functions and can respond to queries about the trip log.
Other key additions include two cooled wireless charging trays each rated at 15 watts, a redesigned centre console and dynamic interaction lighting. The Softwrap surface treatment which runs across the doors and the full width of the dashboard gives the interior a more unified and premium appearance. Vertical air vents accentuate the width of the cockpit.
On the outside, the Q4 e-tron gets digital LED daytime running lights with segmented technology that allows drivers to select from different light signatures through the MMI. At the rear, second generation digital OLED lights improve both safety and visual impact. An optional proximity lighting system can warn other road users when they come too close to the vehicle.
Rounding out the updates, the Q4 e-tron now offers a significantly higher towing capacity of 1,800 kg on quattro variants – an increase of 400 kg over the previous figure. An electric tailgate is now standard across the entire range and the 515-litre boot can be expanded to 1,487 litres with the rear seats folded.
