BMW F 450 GS has been made available in three variants and is powered by a brand new 420 cc parallel-twin engine
The GS badge commands a certain respect and BMW Motorrad has always known how to use it well. The F 450 GS is the latest to carry that lineage forward and it arrives in India at a price point that makes it the most reachable GS the brand has ever offered here.
Base variant kicks off at Rs. 4.70 lakh, the Exclusive sits at Rs. 4.90 lakh and the range-topping GS Trophy is tagged at Rs. 5.30 lakh (all ex-showroom). Bookings are open at authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships right now. At the heart of it sits a brand new 420 cc parallel-twin engine and this is where things get genuinely exciting.
BMW has gone with a 135-degree crank configuration that gives the motor a firing character closer to a V-twin than a conventional parallel-twin. It puts out 48 hp and 43 Nm which for a motorcycle in this weight and price bracket is a strong hand to play. Power goes through a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch standard across the range.

The 310 always felt like a GS in name more than spirit – a single-cylinder model dressed up in adventure clothing but the F 450 GS is a different proposition entirely. It is built on a tubular steel chassis and weighs around 178 kg. Production happens at TVS Motor Company’s Hosur facility, the same plant that rolled out the G 310 range.
Local manufacturing is the reason BMW Motorrad has been able to price the new adv as aggressively as it has. Suspension comes from KYB with adjustable upside-down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The braking setup pairs Brembo hardware at the front with ByBre at the rear and the electronics package punches well above the price – cornering ABS, traction control, Dynamic Brake Control and engine brake management are all on board.

Rain, Road and Enduro ride modes are standard with Enduro Pro locked to the GS Trophy. Step up to the top trim and you also get a 6.5-inch TFT display with navigation and Bluetooth, hand guards, an aluminium bash plate and off-road footpegs. The design is unmistakably GS – tall and upright with a beaked front end and a sharp X-shaped LED headlamp tying it all together in a more compact and less intimidating package than the F 850 or R 1300 GS.
