3 New Rugged SUVs To Be Launched In India By Next Year

GaadiWaadi –

Three new SUVs with rugged looks but a practical and comfort-focused interior are coming to the Indian market by 2027

India’s growing appetite for brawny, confidence-inspiring SUVs has brought an explosive growth for models such as the Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Fortuner, and Mahindra Thar over the past decade. Automakers have taken note and are now adapting the visual toughness of such ladder-frame SUVs into monocoque models. By next year, three new SUVs that possess the rugged look of ladder-frame SUVs but have the comfort and everyday usability of monocoque ones will be launched in India.

1. JSW plug-in hybrid SUV

In October this year, JSW Motors, JSW Group’s new independent automotive company, will launch its first model, which will be a Toyota Fortuner-rivalling D-segment SUV and likely be priced around Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The yet-to-be-named JSW SUV will basically be a rebadged version of Chery’s Jetour Traveller C-DM, earlier called Jetour Traveller T2.

Jetour T2

The Jetour Traveller C-DM is 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,875 mm tall, and its wheelbase spans 2,800 mm. It features a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with two or three electric motors, depending on the variant. Chery uses two different battery packs, again, depending on the variant. This setup gives the plug-in hybrid SUV a pure electric range of up to 162 kilometres, as per WLTC.

The Renault Bridger will be the brand’s first sub-4 metre SUV and compete directly with the Mahindra Vision.S concept’s road-ready version. Already showcased as a concept, it is likely to look the toughest yet most refined product of its class. It will be available with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine at launch and gain hybrid and pure electric powertrain options at later stages.
