MG Majestor has entered Guinness world record books by pulling the heaviest train ever hauled by an SUV on rail; market launch to happen soon
JSW MG Motor India has announced that the MG Majestor has entered the Guinness World Records books by pulling the heaviest train ever hauled by an SUV on rail. The feat was achieved on a secured railway stretch between Kakapora and Awantipora in Jammu & Kashmir towards the end of last month.
As part of the record attempt, the MG Majestor towed a massive train weighing 406.4 tonnes over a distance of 300 feet – surpassing the minimum benchmark of 400 tonnes and 100 feet set by Guinness World Records. The train consisted of a WAG-9HC locomotive along with passenger and guard coaches with the total weight independently verified.
The SUV used was a standard production model with no modifications to its engine, drivetrain or traction systems. The attempt was conducted under strict supervision to ensure that the vehicle alone powered the movement of the train without any external assistance. The British manufacturer introduced the Majestor a few weeks ago following its public debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 last year.

Under the hood, the MG Majestor is powered by a 2.0-litre twin turbocharged diesel engine producing 215.5 PS maximum power and 478.5 Nm of torque. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The strong torque output combined with precise traction management and structural strength enabled the SUV to complete the record run with controlled and consistent performance according to the brand.
The MG Majestor is expected to have its prices announced soon in India. Pre-reservations are currently open at Rs. 41,000 with added benefits for early customers. The first 3,000 buyers will get MG’s ‘Complete Peace-of-Mind’ package which includes a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 5-year roadside assistance and five labour-free services.

In addition to the record-setting feat, the Majestor packs commendable off-road credentials. It comes equipped with a 4WD system featuring 10 off-road modes along with triple differential locks (front, rear and centre), crawl control and 219 mm ground clearance. The SUV also boasts an 810 mm water wading capacity as well.
On the safety front, the Majestor offers a suite of Level 2 ADAS system. Speaking on the achievement, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, said: “This achievement is a powerful demonstration of what the MG MAJESTOR is engineered to deliver. It reflects our focus on building vehicles that combine strength, precision and control, even in the most demanding conditions”
