Positioned between the V23 and V27, the new Chery iCaur (iCar) V25 debuts with REEV technology, larger dimensions, LiDAR support and a towing capacity of up to 1,800 kg
Chery-backed iCaur has expanded its growing lifestyle SUV lineup with the unveiling of the new V25, a hybrid SUV positioned between the compact V23 and flagship V27. Firstly, you should remember that Chinese brand has already patented iCar V23, Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and Jaecoo J7 along with the Exeed RX and Lepas L4 EV in India. They could head to our shores under JSW’s solo venture which will kick off later this year with possibly the Jetour T2.
Thus, the possibility of the V27 hitting the Indian market in the distant future cannot be ruled out and it could arrive as a more upmarket alternative to the Mahindra Thar and along the lines of Jeep Wrangler. The newcomer carries familiar boxy styling but introduces a larger footprint, revised exterior detailing and a range extender powertrain that combines electric propulsion with a petrol engine.
The V25 measures 4,636 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width and 1,855 mm in height while the wheelbase stands at 2,820 mm. This makes it noticeably larger than the V23 which measures 4,220 mm long with a 2,735 mm wheelbase but smaller than the flagship V27 that stretches to 5,055 mm and rides on a 2,910 mm wheelbase.

Amidst the overall silhouette closely resembling the V23, several styling elements distinguish the V25. The front fascia gains a set of new headlamps featuring half-circle LED daytime running lights instead of the twin horizontal DRL signatures seen on the smaller SUV. The grille has also been redesigned with a more open rectangular mesh pattern while the front bumper carries chunkier cladding that reiterates its off-road appeal.
Changes continue towards the rear where the number plate moves from the side-hinged tailgate to a recessed section within the bumper. The trim ahead of the D-pillars has also been revised with an additional insert and a subtle indentation – helping differentiate the V25 from its smaller sibling. In contrary to the fully electric V23, the V25 uses a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) system.

Chinese regulatory filings reveal a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine kicking out 156 PS. The engine functions as a generator to replenish a 33.68 kWh battery pack while propulsion comes from the electric drive system. Depending on the variant, the SUV is claimed to deliver an electric-only driving range of either 145 km or 150 km (WLTC).
Details regarding the electric motor output have not been disclosed yet but the V25 is said to have a top speed of 180 kmph. The V25 will also appeal to those seeking greater practicality. It can be specified with an optional towing package capable of pulling up to 1,800 kg. Choosing this package reduces the departure angle from 24 degrees to 15 degrees.

Meanwhile, the 28-degree approach angle remains unchanged. Buyers will also be able to choose between 19-inch and 21-inch alloy wheels. In terms of technology, the iCar V25 moves further upmarket. The SUV can be equipped with roof-mounted LiDAR sensor for advanced driver assistance functions. Reports from China indicate the system will be linked with Horizon Journey 6 chips delivering greater computing capability.
