Kia’s second locally manufactured electric vehicle, the Syros EV, is expected to arrive with two battery options and a packed features list
Kia India is looking to consolidate its electric vehicle portfolio with the Syros EV which is expected to debut on July 23. The compact electric SUV will become the brand’s second locally manufactured EV following the Carens Clavis EV and will target one of the fastest growing passenger vehicle segments in the country. It is expected to bridge the gap between mainstream electric hatchbacks and midsize electric SUVs.
As opposed to the Carens Clavis EV, which appeals primarily to family users, the Syros EV will look to lure in first-time EV buyers. Reports suggest that Kia will offer the model with two battery pack choice. A front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels is expected across the range. The exterior is expected to stay closely in line with the standard Syros while adopting several EV-specific touches.
A closed front fascia, redesigned bumpers, aerodynamic wheels and unique badging are expected to distinguish the electric model from its petrol and diesel counterparts. The upright proportions, tall roofline and boxy silhouette are expected to remain the same – helping preserve the practicality that has become one of the Syros’ strongest attributes. In short, it could draw plenty of influence the global EV2.

On the inside, Kia is expected to retain the premium cabin finish while introducing EV-specific graphics and software. The dashboard could feature dual digital displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, connected car technology, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, premium upholstery and a panoramic sunroof.
Regenerative braking modes, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging are also likely to be part of the equipment list on high-end grades. Safety is expected to be one of the model’s biggest strengths as six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS safety suite are possible.

The Syros EV may utilise a modified version of the K1 architecture underpinning the ICE model. Reports indicate battery capacities of around 42 kWh and 49 kWh while DC fast charging and AC home charging support are likely. Official driving range figures will only be confirmed at launch but the larger battery variant is expected to target well over 400 km on a single charge.
Kia is expected to price the Syros EV between Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh – placing it against the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, MG Windsor EV and lower variants of the Maruti e Vitara.
