New entry-level electric cars from Hyundai and Kia could be designed to compete with the Tata Nexon EV
Hyundai and Kia both launched their first mass-market EVs in India last year – the Creta Electric and Carens Clavis EV, respectively. These models are still quite expensive for most Indians, and both companies are working on more affordable EVs with plans to launch them in the coming months.
In July, Kia will unveil the pure electric variant of the Syros, President and CEO Ho Sung Song revealed at the company’s annual CEO Investor Day event in April. The company is likely to launch it and commence its deliveries in August. The Syros EV has been undergoing testing in South Korea and India for a while now, and spy shots captured during this phase have revealed several details already.
As expected, the Kia Syros EV appears to look very close to its ICE donor, which was conceived with full electrification in mind. The electric variant will likely feature subtle changes such as a covered upper grille area at the front and a charge port door integrated into the left-side front quarter panel and exclusive 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior should largely look the same as the ICE Syros, though.

The Kia Syros EV is likely to be offered with two battery packs, both featuring LFP cells made by Exide Energy in India. The high localisation would allow Kia to price the model competitively. The company could be targeting a maximum range of well over 400 kilometres.
Hyundai is also working on an entry-level electric SUV, and it plans to launch this model in early 2027. The Hyundai model is also likely to have a tough look with a squarish body and SUV-ish details such as raised roof rails, flared wheel arches, and protective lower-body cladding. Hyundai’s signature parametric pixel light design theme would be seen in the front and rear lights, giving the EV a futuristic look.

The Hyundai EV will likely be more advanced on the inside, featuring a new 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a slim 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster. It may also be offered with two different battery packs featuring Exide Energy-sourced LFP cells. The larger unit should allow travelling well over 400 kilometres on a single charge.
