As part of its new product plans, Renault will bring in a Bridger-based compact SUV, a seven-seater based on Duster and an A-segment EV

The recently unveiled Bridger Concept will form the basis of Renault’s new sub-four-metre SUV for India which is scheduled to arrive before the end of the next calendar year. The production model will be developed and assembled locally while export versions will also leave the Indian manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu for other regions.

The concept combines a compact exterior footprint and measurements suited for first-time SUV consumers. The concept’s ground clearance stands at 200 mm while the luggage compartment is rated at 400 litres. The rear seat offers a claimed 200 mm of knee room and the show vehicle uses 18-inch wheels. The production model could carry smaller wheels and the overall design will also be toned down.

The upcoming SUV will sit above the Kiger in the domestic range and enter the sub-four-metre category to take on the likes of Kia Syros, Mahindra Vision S and others. The styling draws from Renault’s latest global SUV language while the cabin seeks to provide usable passenger and luggage space despite the limited overall length. The Bridger will sit on the RGMP small modular architecture.

The RGMP platform can support petrol, hybrid, and battery-electric propulsion according to regional requirements. Renault has not announced which systems will be offered in the Indian version at launch but we can assume that it will borrow engine (1.0L NA turbo petrol) and transmission options from the Kiger.

The compact SUV is part of four models planned for India by 2030. Every vehicle under the programme will be designed and assembled in the country and we have already seen the arrival of the new generation Duster. Renault also wants the Indian operation to serve as a development, production and export centre for several international markets under its futuREady plan.

The third-generation Duster will gain a seven-seat sibling before the end of this financial year or the next. The Bridger-derived model will arrive after the three-row SUV extending Renault’s presence into a smaller category. The Duster range will also receive a 1.8L strong-hybrid system later this calendar year. The planned range will also contain an affordable locally produced EV.
