New gen Toyota Hilux is expected to go on sale soon in India with major revisions inside and out; based on updated version of IMV platform
The ninth generation global Toyota Hilux has been spotted on Indian roads without camouflage during what appears to be a promotional shoot as the pickup could be inching closer to an official debut in the domestic market. The vehicle seen in the latest images wears a bronze-gold exterior finish and carries the completely redesigned styling already revealed overseas.
While Toyota has not announced an India launch timeline yet, the appearance of an undisguised example has fuelled speculation that preparations could be underway as it could be introduced soon. Judging by the wheels, the prototype looks to be the ICE version as a pure EV is also on sale in the International markets utilising a 59.2 kWh battery pack and dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.
The pickup captured in the images show a dramatically different front fascia compared to the current Hilux sold in India. A wider grille dominates the nose and is flanked by slim LED headlamps connected through a gloss-black panel carrying prominent TOYOTA lettering. The bumper features sharply sculpted sections and angular air intake elements. Thick wheel-arch cladding, a high bonnet line and upright proportions are other highlights.

Under the bonnet, most international versions employ a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 204 PS and 500 Nm. Power is sent through a six-speed automatic transmission while both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations are available. Several markets have also gained a 48V mild-hybrid system paired with the same diesel engine and we expect the same to feature in the India-spec model.

The heavily revised interior gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system replacing the more utilitarian setup seen in the outgoing pickup. Connected car technology, wireless smartphone integration, ADAS, panoramic camera functionality and Toyota Safety Sense features are available based on the variant.
