New Hyundai Creta is expected to go on sale sometime next year and it could be equipped with a strong hybrid powertrain in India

Hyundai has once again been spotted testing an updated version of the Creta, this time in the mountainous regions around Manali. Such locations are commonly used by manufacturers to assess cooling systems, drivetrain calibration, braking efficiency and electronic systems under thinner air and steeper gradients. The frequency of recent sightings suggests that the new SUV is not far away from making its public debut.

The test vehicle looks to be carrying an evolved chassis setup and several technology upgrades that could separate it further from the outgoing version. Reports indicate Hyundai is preparing a more sophisticated rear suspension arrangement – replacing the existing setup with a multi-link architecture. Such a revision could result in improved ride comfort across rough surfaces while also helping body control during high speeds.

Spy photographs from earlier test mules revealed a massive integrated digital display stretching across the dashboard. Hyundai is reportedly preparing its new-gen Pleos operating system for the SUV. The software platform is part of the company’s latest connected vehicle strategy and will allow deeper integration of vehicle functions, navigation, entertainment and connected services.

Importantly, physical controls are expected to stay in place for commonly used functions – reducing dependency on touchscreen inputs. International prototypes have previously been seen wearing new wheels but the Indian test vehicle appears to use a different alloy design similar to units seen on the Kia Seltos. Expect redesigned front and rear bumpers, a revised grille treatment, updated lighting elements and sharper detailing across the body panels.

The overall footprint could also increase slightly – potentially creating additional room inside the cabin. Engine options are not expected to undergo major changes. Hyundai could retain the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor producing 115 hp and 144 Nm, the 1.5-litre diesel delivering 116 hp and 250 Nm and the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit generating 160 hp and 253 Nm. Transmission choices should continue to comprise manual, CVT, automatic and seven-speed dual-clutch options.

The strong hybrid 1.5-litre petrol mill has also been speculated. Another notable addition tipped for the updated model is a column-mounted shift-by-wire selector. The system has already appeared in latest Hyundai products and frees up additional storage space in the centre console area. The packaging improvements could help create a cleaner dashboard layout alongside the new digital interface.

The Korean brand is also expected to revise the Creta Electric after the updated petrol and diesel versions arrive. It could transition to LFP battery chemistry in place of the current NMC to help reduce costs while improving durability. We can expect it to make its global debut towards the end of this year or in early 2027 before going on sale in markets like India.
