Triumph Bonneville 400 boasts twin shocks, unique body panels, peashooter exhaust and telescopic forks judging by the latest spy shots
Following the announcement of prices of the downsized 400 cc lineup which resulted in a notable price drop, Triumph Motorcycles are currently looking to further expand the portfolio. The British manufacturer took the opportunity to launch the Tracker 400 as well and now a retro roadster is being prepared to join the fray – carrying the lineage of the globally popular Bonneville range.
The good news is that it will likely be positioned aggressively against Royal Enfield Classic 350. Judging by the recently leaked undisguised image and spied test mule, it is expected to be launched towards the end of Q3 2026 and it could be priced highly competitively. It looks instantly different from the Speed 400 or any other motorcycle within the 400 cc Triumphs as it boasts a new subframe setup.
Triumph has opted to go with twin rear shock absorbers instead of a monoshock unit that should help aesthetically by being a retro offering and more crucially, save a bit of development cost. In a similar fashion to the Speed T4, which is currently the most affordable Triumph at Rs. 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom), it could be incorporated with regular telescopic front forks as well.
The forks are embellished with classic-styled gaiters. Triumph might tweak the suspension and brake setups too while a dual-channel ABS system will indeed be on offer. The fuel tank capacity could be more than 13 litres found in the existing 400s as the prototype appears to have a larger unit. Another glaring addition is the all-new circular instrument console while the switchgear also gets updates.
Emphasising the classic appeal seen on Bonnies will be the bodywork, wire-spoked wheels running on tube-type tyres and a straight pipe peashooter exhaust system finished in black colour but chrome finishes will be abundant in the final production model or it could be reserved for specific variants. As for the performance, the new 349 cc liquid-cooled engine will be utilised – coupled with a six-speed transmission.
It will likely be tuned to produce 29 PS maximum power and 31 Nm of peak torque similar to the Speed T4 while a slipper and assist clutch could be standard. With several signs pointing towards competitive pricing, the performance advantage the smaller Bonnie will have over its rivals could be a deciding factor.
