In FY26, Tata Nexon sat on top of the SUV sales standings with 2,16,054 units and 32 per cent YoY positive growth
With compact and midsize SUVs dominating customer preferences across price segments, VFM offerings and versatile choices finished within the top ten as steady performers. The latest FY26 sales data shows how competition has shot up with multiple brands posting healthy volumes despite a few notable declines on a YoY basis.
Heading the pack convincingly was the Tata Nexon which registered an impressive 2,16,054 units last fiscal. With a 32 per cent year-on-year growth, the Nexon continues to benefit from its wide powertrain options along with its reputation for safety and value. It remains a consistent volume recorder for Tata Motors along with the Punch.
In the second position was the Hyundai Creta with 2,01,921 units. Despite being in a highly competitive segment, the Creta maintained a stable 4 per cent growth thanks to its balanced package of features, versatile engine options and trusted brand appeal. It continues to be a benchmark in the midsize SUV space for Hyundai Motor.

The third spot was occupied by the Tata Punch which posted 1,83,980 units. While it saw a 6 per cent decline, the Punch remains a popular entry-level SUV due to its features list and affordability. Meanwhile, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza slipped to fourth place with a 5 per cent drop – totalling 1,80,104 units. Despite the dip, it continues to be a key model for Maruti Suzuki.
The Mahindra Scorpio secured the fifth position with 1,78,800 units by recording an 8 per cent growth. Its road presence and long term credibility continue to attract buyers in aplenty. Not far behind, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx recorded 1,72,363 units – growing by 4 per cent and reinforcing its rising popularity among customers.

In the lower half, the Hyundai Venue saw a marginal 1 per cent decline with 1,17,737 units while the Kia Sonet performed well with a 14 per cent increase to 1,14,142 units. The Mahindra XUV 3XO made a notable impact with 1,03,341 units – registering a 5 per cent growth and climbing into the top 10. Rounding off the list was the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder which emerged as one of the fastest-growing models with a remarkable 65 per cent surge – reaching 99,890 units.
