Maruti Dzire (1)

The sedan segment grew by 22.3 percent on a YoY basis with the Maruti Dzire largely scripting this success story in Apr 2026

The sedan segment in India has witnessed a downfall in volumes over the last few years due to the massive increase in popularity of SUVs. However, if we look at the Apr 2026 sales numbers, it is quite visible that sedans still have some takers in the country and are quite far away from being completely irrelevant. The sales data of last month further reveals that compact sedans still enjoy decent acceptance among the buyers while most of the premium models are still in triple digit volumes. Let’s take a detailed look at sedan sales for the month of April 2026 in India.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued its unparalleled dominance in the Indian market with volumes of 23,580 units in Apr 2026. The sedan registered a healthy YoY growth of 38.7 percent as 16,996 units were sold during the same month last year. It alone accounted for more than 67 percent of the overall sales in the sedan segment. Despite being in the Indian market for close to two decades, Maruti Dzire’s charm has not faded even one bit.

Hyundai Aura took the second position with sales of 4,587 units in Apr 2026. It posted a YoY growth of 8.6 percent as 4,224 units were retailed in Apr 2025. The Aura has a double-digit market share of 13 percent in the sedan segment in India. Having debuted in Jan 2020 in petrol and CNG fuel trims, it replaced the Xcent which was on sale from 2014 in the Indian market.
