JSW Motors’ product line-up in the initial years likely to be made of rebadged and mildly redesigned versions of Chinese models

JSW Motors, JSW Group’s first independent venture into the car business, is working on an aggressive launch plan right from the beginning. The company is expected to launch five electrified SUVs in the next 2-3 years, and all of them would be models derived from Chinese conglomerate Chery’s line-up.

1. Jetour T2

Jetour T2

The first model from JSW Motors will be an adaptation of Jetour T2, a D-segment SUV with classic proportions and stance, set to compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor. This model is 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,875 mm tall and has a 2,800 mm wheelbase. The company is said to bring it to our market in completely knocked-down (CKD) kits by September and offer it with plug-in hybrid technology, which would be the first in its segment. We expect its electric range to be around 139 kilometres, as per NEDC.

2. Jaecoo J5

Jaecoo J5 EV (2)

JSW Motors will launch its version of the Jaecoo J5 as its second product in January 2027. This will likely be a Hyundai Creta Electric rival measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, along with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Chery manufactures the Jaecoo J5 in hybrid and electric variants, but JSW Motors may only launch the latter initially, with an NEDC range of 461 kilometres.

3. iCar V23

The iCar V23 is a slightly smaller, retro-style SUV engineered only as an EV. It is 4,220 mm long, 1,915 mm wide, and 1,845 mm tall, and it has a 2,730 mm wheelbase. It is made in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants, and at least the latter could be offered in India. The potential Tata Sierra.ev rival could deliver a range of 360 kilometres in the single-motor RWD variant and 430 kilometres in the dual-motor RWD, as per CLTC. It will likely be launched in the third quarter of 2027.

The Chery Q is a low-cost small SUV measuring 4,195 mm in length, 1,811 mm in width, and 1,574 mm in height, along with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It could form the base for JSW Motors’ MG Windsor EV rival and hit the market as a locally manufactured model sometime in 2028. It will likely have an NEDC range of 400 kilometres.

5. Jaecoo J7

The Jaecoo J7 is a C-SUV produced in ICE, hybrid, and plug-in variants, and JSW Motors could also bring it to India in both the electrified variants in late 2027, targeting models such as the upcoming Kia Seltos Hybrid and Renault Duster Hybrid. This model is 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall and has a 2,672 mm wheelbase. Its plug-in hybrid variant could deliver an NEDC electric range of 106 kilometres.
